Little fingers, little toes, BIG hearts…
STOP. Right where you are…just stop, whatever you’re doing…be still and take a moment to think about how blessed you are. We all live different lives with different families and different struggles and challenges. Through all of the differences I’m pretty sure we can each come up with at least five to ten things to be thankful for in our own personal lives. Two of my biggest blessings have little fingers, little toes and the BIGGEST HEARTS! My sweet and precious children!
As a young girl I dreamed about the day I would one day become a Momma (like I’m sure many of us do). I enjoyed pretending and playing house & “cooking”…sadly my cooking skills didn’t get any better as the years went on. My husband might be better off with fake food! Hahaha!
Going from dreams to the reality of becoming a Momma many years later it’s easy to get lost in the messiness of life. The dirty diapers, sleepless nights, snotty noses, spit up on your clothes, days without a shower, dirty floors, toys everywhere and challenging toddlers full of attitude! The heartache of losing babies and watching your dreams fade into the night right along with those precious babies. As parents we all go through these different stages as we strive to raise up our little ones to stand strong in this messy world. Training our children to love Jesus and put others first…to grow up to be kind, forgiving, loving, thoughtful & strong adults. Parenthood is one of the biggest challenges yet biggest blessings all rolled into one!
Some days are harder than others and on those days I often feel like all I can do is just breathe. Take a deep breath and survive the day until bedtime! You know, that glorious time when there is that small window of peace and quiet. No screaming, no clinging, no bad attitudes. I believe we all have those days with our children. In the midst of the craziness of my wonderful life I am constantly reminded to “be still and know that I am God” by my heavenly Father. I’m reminded to not just survive these different stages of life but to thrive! He shows me how blessed I am to be a mother of my beautiful girls and married to such an amazing man! I STOP to refocus and notice the precious little hands, the little toes and the biggest hearts of my sweet babies!
He reminds me to be thankful for my daughters. I’m so thankful for their little hands that hold mine and reach up for Mommy to hold them. Their chubby little hands that they’re learning how to use to be kind and not hit one another. Their sweet hands that grab on to the other to lift them back up when one of them falls down. Those cute little toes that are learning how to walk and are oh so ticklish when you touch them! Their little toes that I pray will one day carry the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who don’t know Him. Big hearts…some days I just hold my hand on their beating hearts and thank Jesus for giving them the breath of life! My girls have the biggest hearts…for any animal and every person. I’m so thankful for that! Our oldest is very strong willed yet chooses to ask for forgiveness on a daily basis. She has a mind of her own (and I’m glad she does) but has the sweetest spirit. She loves people so deeply and is unapologetically her! She is our wildflower that shines bright in a dark world! She has the biggest heart and is teaching her little sister to be the same way! Our youngest adores her older sister and is so much like her! But at the same time she is her own unique self and is very tender hearted already. She is our cuddle bug and more sensitive one. She isn’t quite sure what to think of new people she meets and typically cries and clings to Mommy…which we find so different from Emma who doesn’t meet a stranger! I’m so grateful to be given the opportunity to lead by example and teach our girls to have BIG HEARTS in a world where the number one thing is to lookout for yourself and to do whatever makes you ”happy”. I pray that they will always choose to be love Jesus, be kind, and to put others first.
If you’re a Momma or Daddy out there will you join me in growing and learning on this parenting journey to raise humble and kind kiddos who choose Jesus and others over themselves? Lead by example and ask for forgiveness when we mess up (because we will). Let’s humble ourselves and have BIG HEARTS like our little (or grown) children do and choose to put others first. Forget about happiness, let’s choose holiness. Cheers to parenthood and not doing it alone! Kiss those little hands, little toes and hug that precious kiddo with the big heart and thank the Lord for them! He chose YOU to parent them.
